What Is An Enlarged Prostate Gland

…and What Are The Natural Remedies For Dealing With It?

Your prostrate gland is a male reproductive gland which produces prostrate fluids to nourish and transport sperm during ejaculation. And it generally handles that task just fine.

Problem is it surrounds the urethra. Think of that as the pipe urine takes from the bladder out of the body.

At birth this gland is about the size of an almond. When you hit puberty it doubles in size to about the size of a walnut. It weighs in at about an ounce.

Get the picture? And if it never grew again that would be the end of the story. But unfortunately that's not what happens. Because for some it undergoes a second growth spurt that starts in their 40s. Later for some. Earlier for others.

But when your prostrate becomes bigger in size you have what it called an enlarged prostrate. Your doctor may refer to it as BPH (benign prostrate hyperplasia). You know how doctors are? They like to use terms that make things sound complicated. It just means your prostate got bigger.

Not everyone will go through this. And some will avoid the problems is causes.

But where your prostate resides, well it's tight for space. So it's only natural when it grows in size due to limited room, something has to give.

So remember the uretha? A swelled up prostate can squeeze it so things don't flow as well as they used to. As freely. This creates problems. Or symptoms as your doctor might put it.

An enlarged prostate is responsible for causing symptoms like the following.

An increase in urination frequency and urgency. Which often shows up with increased trips to the bathroom at night.

Once there you may have trouble going. Which is disappointing after having rushed to the bathroom to begin with.

Or you may have weak urine stream. Or you may only squeeze out a small amount. While still feeling like you need to go despite having just gone.

Afterwards you may find you're leaking or dribbling urine. You see, your prostate condition may affect bladder control. And what guy wants to hear that?

Yet aside from the inconvenience of it all, the condition itself poses no risks. Nor does it lead to prostrate cancer. At least according the National Cancer Institute.

Treatments would include medication that can help shrink your prostate down to size. For some surgery is the treatment of choice. Plus there are natural remedies. one might try. Just keep in mind that self help is fine. But nothing takes the place of discussing your prostate issues your personal physician.
