What Are the Symptoms of Prostatitis?

And Why You May Be Desperate For A Cure For Prostatitis

Prostatitis is an painful inflammatory condition which affects the prostate gland. The walnut shaped prostrate is neighbors with your bladder and like any other gland can get infected. The symptoms of prostatitis can mimic a bladder infection and some may even experience flu like symptoms.

Specifically fever, chills, urinary infection, difficulty in urinating, lower back pain, muscle pain, blood in urine, painful ejaculation are some symptoms and problems that come with prostatitis. Sometimes the symptoms may disappear but the infection will remain. Which is why this is such a tricky condition for your doctor to deal with.

On top of that prostatitis comes in different forms. Each with its own treatment options.

Acute bacterial prostatitis is the least common type. Coming on suddenly you may experience chills, fever, and body aches like in the lower back area all accompanied by a strong urge to urinate. This form is often caused by types of bacteria that cause bladder infections. The good thing is it is quite treatable with a course of antibiotics taken for a term of four to six weeks.

The second less common form is chronic bacterial prostatitis. Again lower back pain, mild pain or burning pain while urinating can occur. Or not. Antibiotics, rest and forcing liquids is the common course of treatment. Although in this case antibiotics typically do not knock out the underlying cause.

Chronic Prostatitis is the most common and most difficult to treat. When a chronic diagnosis symptoms come and go. There are few if any signs of infection so antibiotics are unlikely to help. Being nonbacterial, more than likely you'll be advised to make changes to your diet (cutting back on caffeine and spicy foods for example), drinking plenty of fluids, or taking warm baths. Bicycling should be avoided. Alpha blockers may be prescribed to insure your bladder empties completely. Unfortunately there is no one size fits all cure here. Lots of help, right?

Asymptomatic Inflammatory prostatitis is yet another form and not well understood. Often this is discovered when doing other routine screenings for enlarged prostate or cancer. But suffers usually have no symptoms or inflamed prostate gland. Treatment may involves taking antibiotics. Or not.

Though not a life threatening disease, prostatitis, especially recurring prostatitis can put a crimp in your lifestyle. So it's good to know what symptoms to watch for so you can consult with your doctor and react best you can so as to be returned to good health soonest.
