Symptoms of Prostate Cancer - What Can You Expect?

The symptoms of prostate cancer may not vary much from the symptoms of other prostate problems such as benign prostate hyperlasia (BPH) also known as prostate enlargement.

According to Jake Hussey, "You can really be fooled by the similarities between the symptoms of prostate cancer and that of any other less serious disease of the prostrate such as BPH. Pain in the area of the prostate gland is only to be expected in the case of cancers but it could also be one of the signs of prostate enlargement."

Self diagnosis from various general non-specific symptoms such as frequent urination or pain can often be incorrect and faulty. And cause undue worry too.

"When I got my PSA levels checked and found it to be unexpectedly high, I was convinced that I definitely had a tumor," continued Hussey. "I thought that each of symptom I had clearly indicated prostate cancer. The disease none of us what to confront to be honest."
"So I went to see my doctor who sent me to the hospital for more tests all of which came back negative for prostate cancer. I am glad to say that I was definitely mistaken in believing that I displayed prostrate cancer symptoms. Guess that's why there the letters MD don't show on my drivers license!"

If you suspect that you may be suffering from prostate cancer, the best thing you can do is to see your doctor for a PSA and DRE (digital rectal exam) immediately. And don't get ahead of yourself and start planning for how you're going to deal with the side effects of chemotherapy or whatever option you choose to treat the situation. Even though it's hard not to worry take things a step at a time. Like your mom always told you, don't cross any bridges until you get to them.

Problem is the common approaches for screening, like taking PSA levels, can be indicative of prostate trouble. But they are also prone to false positives of one sort or another. Should you go in for a biopsy, you will find it is a far more definite method of diagnosing prostate cancers.

Know the Symptoms of Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is one of the easiest cancers to detect, treat and cure. Plus these are also usually slow growing tumors.

Problem is most of the time the cancer grows without displaying any symptoms. Which is why if you show any of the following symptoms you should be checked out by your doctor right away. If nothing else to rule out prostate cancer as the underlying cause. The symptoms to watch for include
Weak, painful or interrupted urine flow.

Feeling the need to "go" often - especially at night.

Having a hard time starting or stopping your urine flow.

Blood in your urine or a burning sensation when urinating.

Persistent pain or stiffness in the lower back, pelvis or upper thighs.
Again such problems are not always indicative of prostate cancer. But they are signs you got problems with your prostate or urinary tract of some sort that need to be looked into further.

Don't take the absence of pain as a sign there isn't a problem. Don't take any of the above symptoms as too insignificant to worry about. Too often prostate cancer develops without any warning signs passing through the most curable stage silently. By the time you do display any persistent symptoms it may be too late. Things may have advanced too far for the easier treatment options to work. Unfortunately with this disease you can't count on specific red flags to signal the need to seek medical treatments.
