Enlarged Prostate Symptom?
What Does It Mean?

Worried Over What to do About an Enlarged Prostate

It's a fact. About 20% of guys in their 50s are bothered by an enlarged prostate symptom or two. But about time that group hits their 70s a majority will face prostate problems. Yeah prospects of avoiding this aren't good.

Yet most are reluctant to bring these kind of problems up when sitting across from their doctors. Heck the mere mention of the word "prostate" among friends can result in you practically being shunned. So it's clearly not something men like to discuss.

This fourth most-commonly diagnosed health problem for older guys has various causes.

For one it could be due to BPH or "benign prostatic hyperplasia". You can see why it's shortened to BPH now can't you? In other words an enlarged prostate.

Another cause could be prostate cancer. But let's hope not.

Or it could be due to some other underlying health problem like hypertension, diabetes, depression, high cholesterol, certain medications and even obesity.

A problem in the urinary tract is the most common symptom of enlarged prostate. That's because as the size of prostate gland increases it presses up against the bladder leading to all many of issues with the kidneys, urethra and the bladder itself. Some of the symptoms to watch for are
• Urinary hesitancy: that is difficulty in passing urine.
• Weak urination: a weak stream or flow of urine.
• Urinary blockage: unable to urinate at all.
• Frequent or urgent trips to the bathroom: sensing the need to go even when you just went
• Urinary incontinence: inability to control urination. You may experience dribbling of urine at night or during the day.
• Pushing it: Feeling a need to push when urinating.
• Lack of empty feeling: Your bladder doesn't feel empty - even after urination.
Unfortunately the symptoms are the same whether you've got either benign prostate hyperplasia and prostate cancer. Some very unlucky sorts may even be suffering from both at the same time!

With prostate cancer you may also face painful urination, burning urination, painful ejaculation, erection difficulty, lower back pain, stiffness etc.

Thentoo if some other underlying disease is causing the enlarged prostate the symptoms may still be the same. Yeah this isn't necessarily going to be simple.

That is also why a through physical checkup is necessary along with a DRE (Digital Rectal Exam) and a PSA test. Seek immediate medical help when you see one or more of the symptoms listed above. It is better to be safe than sorry. Besides there are many treatments and some natural remedies that can help relieve the symptoms.
